Horner, Paul and Jerry R. Roughton. North Carolina Numismatic Scrapbook. NCNS, POB 793, Kenansville, NC 28349.

A numismatic journal issued four times annually, begun in 2001. Most articles present the original research of the author/publishers.

Newman, Eric P. The Early Paper Money of America. Fifth edition, Krause Publications, 2008

The standard catalog and reference for United States colonial paper money.

Watson, Alan D. Money and Monetary Problems in Early North Carolina. North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources, Division of Archives and History, 1980.

Watson's text is a good complement to Newman's numismatic focus: It is primarily concerned with the economic and political dimensions of the early use of paper money in North Carolina.
